Dacorum Education Support Centre

Who We Are

At Dacorum Education Support Centre, we help young people engage with learning and feel positive about the value of education. We use a relational approach, which means we build strong, supportive relationships to make learning work for everyone.

We offer two types of support:

  • Outreach Support – We work with learners in their own schools to help them stay there and succeed. This includes advice for teachers, support for families, and training for school staff.
  • In-Reach Programmes – Short-term programmes for Primary and Key Stage 3 learners at our Tenzing Road Centre. For Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11), we can provide longer-term support.

All our programmes are accessed through direct school referrals and the Hertfordshire Statutory Schools Exclusion Team.

We also provide Day 6 provision for learners who have been permanently excluded. This starts on the sixth day of exclusion and runs until the fifteenth day. It is tailored to each child and takes place at Tenzing Road.

Our Outreach team works with all Dacorum schools to help prevent exclusions and support young people through a behaviour-based curriculum. We help with managed moves, support learners settling into new schools, and work with individuals, groups, and whole classes. We also offer advice, strategies, and training for staff, and run behaviour forums for schools to share ideas and best practice.

Our Therapeutic Services team supports learners and families in a holistic way. This includes counsellors, Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs), and a Drawing and Talking practitioner. We also signpost families to other helpful services.

We follow Hertfordshire’s Tiered Approach to emotional wellbeing and behaviour, and Therapeutic Thinking is at the heart of what we do.

Our mantras – “Be the best you can be” and “Inspiring Futures” – guide all our work. We help young people overcome barriers, re-engage with learning, and take their next steps. Our values of Respect, Aspiration, and Resilience shape our Centre and help learners grow into confident, responsible adults.
